“The first day I arrived in Morocco with Emna I knew I was in the right place with the right person. Emna and I have been friends since the beginning of Mirror Palais; during lockdown, I would send packages of my swim and silk pieces to her home in Tunisia. I was so in awe by her and her world, so different from anything I have known, and yet familiar the way a dream feels.”
“The sunlight hits differently in North Africa, the colors are more vibrant, like Chefchaouen blue, Marrakech yellows and reds, and the colored glass in Fes. This campaign and new collection is a full circle moment for me, I’m so excited to share more. ”
“Last summer I went to Sicily to celebrate my birthday. I traveled along the Sicilian coast to Palermo... From there we sailed to Naples, and eventually to Rome, where one night I met a man in the most serendipitous way. I fell in love with the city and with him. By day I wandered the streets until I found a vintage white cotton ruffle top, along with other small treasures that inspired me to design again. When the Roman heat became too much, he took me to Sardinia.
We spent a week playing pretend, our days filled with dreamlike magic, swimming in the sea, hanging laundry in the sun, me sketching on the porch that faced the ocean while he took work calls, and our nights exploring the island and each other. Like any dream, eventually I had to wake up. When I returned home, everything had shifted and reality set in. The illusions lifted, showing me who truly belonged in my life and who needed to go.
I rebuilt our spring collection around that white cotton ruffle top, a love letter to the easier version of myself I hope to meet again and again. I made the collection all white and cream, not knowing it represented a clean slate.”
“The collection wasn’t inspired by Morocco, but I’ve always felt drawn to the beauty and culture of the Maghreb. Emna’s work has always reflected that: desert and sea, texture and color, softness and strength. Knowing the collection was all white, I loved the idea of setting it against that richness. We connected with locals in every city, and without them, none of this would have been possible. From the souks of Marrakech to the tiles of Fés, the dunes of Merzouga to the pristine streets of Rabat; it was incredible to witness a place where history, beauty, and tradition are still so alive.”
“In a world obsessed with speed and sleekness, Mirror Palais is about slowing down. Creating with meaning and honoring beauty. It takes everything out of me to work this way, but your response always reminds me why it’s worth it. I hope you love this collection and these images. ”
